SPEECH TO THE AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE COLLEGE CENTRE FOR DEFENCE AND STRATEGIC STUDIES

4 November 2008, WELLINGTON, NEW ZEALAND

ACT ON NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL SECURITY

Thank you for the invitation to speak to you again this year.

We are in the midst of an election campaign and to date there has been a marked lack of policy debate in our presidential style campaign with the two bigger party leaders going head to head on issues such as trust and change, with an apparent disconnect with the real issues facing our country. It is refreshing to be able to speak about policy today in my capacity as ACT’s National Security spokesman and I’m taking the opportunity to launch my discussion paper on International Relations and National Security – Keeping Kiwis Safe in the 21st Century.
